Auckland Airport has officially opened its new mountain bike park.

The Runway Mountain Bike Park has been designed for all levels of experience. Ԭ

David Gabbitas, from the designers of the track, Auckland Mountain Bike Club, said the bike park was ideal for those seeking an introduction to off-road cycling.

"The variety of features will help riders develop their skills," he said.

The 5km track, located on former farmland, features a network of different tracks with runway views, including a 50m pump track with a circuit of dirt rollers and berms that can be ridden without pedalling.

Bicycle hire company Natural High will be offering mountain bikes to hire for a gold coin donation from 10am on November 23.

Auckland Mountain Bike Club will also be on hand to provide riding tips, as well as a sausage sizzle.

The Runway Mountain Bike Park is situated behind the Airport Shopping Centre within The District, an area that includes the newly opened Outdoor Gallery – an open-air art gallery featuring works from 11 of New Zealand’s best artists.
