If you’re looking for some late snow and aren’t sure where to go – here’s the top 10 late season ski resorts in no particular order.
The best bets for a late March or April break in Europe are as follows:
- Zermatt, Switzerland – it has the highest pistes in the Alps and snow reliability is great.
- Saas-Fee, Switzerland – good snow is pretty much guaranteed late into the season, especially up on its (excellent) glacier.
- Val d’Isère/Tignes, France – extensive skiing at high altitudes.
- Obergurgl, Austria – good snow until May.
- Val Thorens, France – whilst the other 3 valley resorts wind down in April, Europe’s highest resort keeps going well into May.
- Åre, Sweden – spring arrives late at these northerly latitudes and April can offer some of the best skiing of the season here.
- Ischgl, Austria – most of its slopes are above 2000m and good snow cover is virtually assured until early May.
- Arc 1950 / Arc 2000 (Les Arcs), France – Here the main bowl is high and shady, and snow preservation is excellent.
- Sölden, Austria – lower runs may be deteriorating, but higher up conditions are often excellent, especially on its glaciers.
- Argentière (Chamonix), France
