SkyGuide payout to families of Russian children
Switzerland’s air traffic control organisation has reportedly agreed a multi-million settlement with families of Russian children who died in a mid-air collision.
As reported by News From Abroad, 71 people died in July 2002 when a Russian charter jet collided with a cargo plane – just seconds after following instructions from Swiss air traffic controllers at Zurich airport. Investigators blamed the Swiss company SkyGuide for the accident.
The Independent newspaper quotes a spokesman for SkyGuide as confirming that a settlement had been made, and though no figure is confirmed, Swiss newspapers are reporting that the settlement is around $150,000 per family.
The newspaper reports that SkyGuide has already agreed to pay compensation of $300,000 to families of Russian crew killed in the crash.
