Slew of new lawsuits filed by 450 Mandalay Bay shooting victims
Several new lawsuits representing more than 450 victims were filed in a single day against MGM Resorts International and others over the deadly Las Vegas mass shooting.
Five new suits which will proceed as a single complaint, were filed in California Monday, naming MGM Resorts International, event organizer Live Nation Entertainment Inc. and the estate of shooter Stephen Paddock.
Notably none of these new lawsuits have targeted the manufacturers of ‘bump stocks’ in contrast to earlier lawsuits.
"We want to focus on hotel and venue security, not turn this into a gun rights case," said lawyer Muhammad Aziz who is heading up the lawsuits.
Aziz said they were filed in California as most plaintiffs were based there.
Aziz also noted Live Nation is based in the state and Paddock has real estate holdings in California worth millions.
Several previous lawsuits have been filed, mostly in Nevada.
On October 1, Paddock, 64 fired into a crowd of concertgoers from his room at MGM’s Mandalay Bay Hotel, killing 58 people and injuring hundreds.
