An Indian Indigo jet from Mumbai was evacuated on Wednesday using emergency chutes after air traffic controllers warned the pilot about dense smoke.

Some of the 147 passengers on the Airbus A-320 sustained minor injuries during the emergency evacuation, which happened as the plane landed at New Delhi airport.

"All the passengers were evacuated by the right-hand-side slide-chute and one left-hand-side slide chute in approximately 75 seconds," said the budget airline in a statement.

"We confirm that all passengers and crew members are safe."

It said the smoke, which was from the left brake assembly, was being investigated.

According to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald, air traffic controllers informed the pilot about the smoke as the aircraft touched down. The captain immediately ordered crew to evacuate all passengers.
