The South African Government has identified skills development as a key focus area at this year’s Tourism Indaba to be held at the Durban International Convention Centre as from 11 to 15 May 2007.

The Tourism Indaba is an annual premier event on the tourism calendar which provides an opportunity for tourism stakeholders to converge and showcase their products and services.

The over-arching theme for this year’s Indaba, “Building a skills partnership for tourism development” highlights the need for partnerships with business and stakeholders in tourism to realize the objective of skills development in the sector. The Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Minister Marthinus Van Schalkwyk will officially open the event.

In keeping with previous years, the department will undertake activities at Indaba as a lead government agency for tourism. The tourism SMME workshop, Global Media Face off as well as the Launch of the SMME toolkits are the three main activities that will be hosted by the department at this event.
