South Beach hotel makes charming offer

The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach says it is capitalizing on the city’s famous models to offer a somewhat unusual program for teenaged girls called “Charm Camp.”

“The desired result is to polish skills teens can put to use while in the “glam capital of South Beach and incorporate into their everyday lives,” according to the Ritz.

The program offers teen girls 13-18 the basics of modern-day manners, beauty, makeup, poise, style, how to talk and even healthy eating habits.

Among the more unusual classes is one on “the art of conversation,” where teenagers are taught vocabulary and “remembering the all-important thank you note.”

Classes are conducted with hands-on time in the kitchen led by hotel chefs and Miami HEAT dancers.

The first Charm Camp starts June 19, with other classes in November and December. The program is open to both hotel guests and the public. Classes start at $175, while summer hotel rates begin at $279 a night.

The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach’s claim to fame is as “the area’s most luxurious oceanfront hotel.” It is a complete restoration of the original 1953 Morris Lapidus-designed DiLido hotel in the historic Art Deco district.
