Southeast Asia welcomes back international cruising

Thursday, 03 Jul, 2022 0

Southeast Asia is finally back on the international cruise map.

The region saw its first international cruise call in over two years, as Royal Caribbean’s Spectrum of the Seas arrived at Port Klang, Malaysia.

A second Singapore based ship, Resorts World Cruises’ Genting Dream later called at Indonesia’s Batam and Bintan Island on July 2.

“The return of cruising is timely, as countries around the region reopen to welcome visitors. We look forward to developing more exciting itineraries for our guests,” said Angie Stephen, MD, Asia-Pacific, Royal Caribbean International.

As cross-border cruises restart, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) expects the Singapore’s cruise industry to return to pre-Covid levels by 2023 or 2024.

Both Spectrum of the Seas and Genting Dream are homeported in Singapore.

“Cruising is a key tourism driver, and Singapore will continue to work with our counterparts to strengthen the region’s attractiveness as a cruising destination and source market,” STB chief executive, Keith Tan said.
