Southwest Airlines to launch seasonal Grand Cayman flights from Houston

Southwest Airlines has announced a new seasonal summer route linking Houston, Texas to Grand Cayman beginning next June.

Southwest also flies to Grand Cayman from Ft Lauderdale, Florida, a service which was introduced last summer.

It has been heartily welcomed by Cayman Islands minister of tourism, Moses Kirkconnell.

"The successful addition of the Florida route this past June has driven incremental performance in the form of increased air arrivals and higher occupancy levels. Texas is a major source market for stay-over visitors, we anticipate similar success with the launch of Southwest’s Houston summer route," he said.

Increasing air lift into Grand Cayman remains a top priority for the tourism sector, he added.

"Growth in air arrivals will be supported by 1,200 more rooms coming to market through a variety of new and existing hotel developments."

United Airlines also flies the Houston-Grand Cayman route.

Southwest also recently announced new service to Cancun and has just launched new flights to Turks and Caicos, Costa Rica and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic from Fort Lauderdale.
