Southwest downsizing workforce at some airports
Southwest Airlines is in the process of ‘restructuring’ its workforce at several airports but insists there won’t be any more compulsory layoffs.
It affects staff numbers at Baltimore and three California airports – Hollywood Burbank, LAX and San Jose Mineta International.
Some employees will be shifted to other bases.
“Our current flight schedule and modest growth plan for 2025 require alignments to our workforce at four airports where we operate,” Southwest said.
“We always try to minimize the impact and all will have an opportunity to remain with Southwest.”
It will impact about 120 ground operations and customer facing roles at the airports.
Southwest said these employees can bid for similar open positions at different airports, apply for other open positions across the company, or take with a severance package.
The airline recently said it was cutting about 1,750 corporate positions.
