Southwest may switch from Seattle’s Sea-Tac airport to Boeing Field

Burdened by increasing high cost of flying out of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, and plans to expand in Seattle, Southwest Airlines is considering moving its Seattle operations to Boeing Field.

Talks between Southwest and Boing Field, officially named King County International Airport, owners have been taking place for more than a year.

The nation’s largest domestic airline, Southwest has kept its costs low by avoiding high priced airports and opting for secondary airports as Oakland, Islip, Burbank, Midway, etc.

Southwest has approximately 40 landings a day at Sea-Tac behind Alaska Airlines, Alaska subsidiary Horizon Air, and United Airlines.

To pay for improvements which include a third runway and a new terminal Sea-Tac airlines’ cost to use the airport has risen from $4 a passenger in the mid-1990s to a projected $23 each in 2009, making it one of the most expensive airports in the country.
