Southwest to start Puerto Vallarta flights next year
Southwest Airlines plans to serve its fourth Mexican destination next year, with service to Puerto Vallarta from Orange County, CA.
The airline has filed an application with the US Department of Transportation for a single daily nonstop flight from John Wayne Airport to start in June 2015.
Addressing an investor meeting, CEO Gary Kelly said: "Puerto Vallarta will be our ninth international destination, allowing Southwest to continue our purpose of connecting people to an amazing new destination."
Kelly also revealed plans to add a Saturday service between Baltimore/Washington and San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, due to begin June 13, 2015.
Southwest expects to add two more international destinations during 2015 and "there could be one more," Kelly said.
Commenting on post-Wright Amendment performance at Dallas Love Field, he said it has gone ‘extremely well.’
Passenger loadings are averaging over 90% on the extra 49 additional flights since flight restrictions were lifted at the Dallas airport.
