Southwest unveils discounted fares for new Dallas routes
After losing out to Virgin America in the battle for the two remaining divested flight slots at Dallas Love Field, Southwest Airlines is fighting back with special one-way airfares of $99 or less to 15 cities.
In a move that could trigger a price war in the Dallas market, Southwest will begin flights from Love Field to destinations such as New York LaGuardia, Washington Reagan National Airport; Chicago, Las Vegas, and Orlando from October 13.
October 13 marks the end of the Wright Amendment which restricted the number of flights allowed in and out of Dallas Love Field.
Southwest announced the 15 cities back in February and CEO Gary Kelly vowed to introduce cheaper fares at Love Field.
Special introductory fares can be booked through May 23 for travel from October 13 – December 17 to Baltimore/Washington, Chicago Midway, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orlando and Washington Reagan National.
Similar fares to Atlanta, Nashville, Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, New York LaGuardia, Phoenix, San Diego, Santa Ana/Orange County and Tampa Bay are also available to book for travel beginning November 2.
To accommodate the new routes the carrier will revamp is schedules with frequencies in some markets being reduced to accommodate the Love Field expansion.
This includes dropping Amarillo-Denver flights and trimming six daily services from Albuquerque.
