SPACE exhibit to blast-off at Indiana State Museum
An unprecedented traveling exhibition on space exploration lifted off at Indiana State Museum on March 3, 2007. At more than 6,000 square-feet, SPACE: A Journey to Our Future is one of the largest-ever touring exhibitions on space exploration and the future of space. The exhibit is produced by Evergreen Exhibitions in educational collaboration with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). SPACE is made possible by General Motors and Lockheed M artin, and is presented locally by RATIO Architects and Sky Bank.
The Indiana State Museum is Indianas premier museum for learning about space science from the vastness of our universe, to the exploration of the moon, Mars and beyond, said Peggy Fisherkeller, Indiana State Museum Curator of Geology. With the successful return to flight and NASAs new goals for space exploration, the SPACE exhibit could not be more timely and relevant for our visitors.
The purpose of SPACE is to present educational elements in scenic environments that will fuel the imagination and build new dreams for the future of space exploration. While totally immersing visitors in the exciting scenic elements, the exhibit also features live performances, child-friendly interactives, and state of the art projection and audio technology to bring this epic story to life. Highlights include opportunities to touch pieces of the moon and Mars, operate a centrifuge and visit a simulated scientific base camp on the Martian surface.
