SpaceX explosion disrupted hundreds of Florida flights
More than 200 flights were disrupted due to the second successive explosion of a SpaceX launch last week.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration said the explosion and falling debris over a wide area caused 28 flights already in the air to be diverted, while another 40 were held up and unable to land for some time.
More than 170 departures were delayed.
The FAA issued a ground stop at four Florida airports — Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Palm Beach International.
Flight delays lasted an average of 28 minutes.
SpaceX must perform a ‘mishap investigation.’
The latest failure comes after the agency gave SpaceX approval to launch despite the previous explosion investigation still ongoing.
The previous explosion rained debris down on the Turks and Caicos earlier this year.
The company described it as a ‘minor setback.’
