Spain still a hit with Brits
Tour operators like First Choice may be abandoning the mainstream Spanish market, but figures from one travel website suggest the Spanish resorts are still a favourite with UK holidaymakers.
The top ten selling flight destinations included Alicante and Malaga (3rd and 4th), according to the latest market report from Cheapflights for bookings in May 2004.
But none feature in the top ten for accommodation, suggesting holidaymakers are either staying with friends and relatives, have second homes, or book their accommodation elsewhere.
The top two flight destinations according to page impressions in May 2004, were London and New York.
For short breaks, Prague, Barcelona, Amsterdam and New York dominated in May.
According to Cheaflights chief executive David Soskin this is a reflection of the negative attitude of Brits towards the likelihood of a second summer of glorious weather at home.
