Spain too English, customers tell online travel agent

Spain is losing its allure because “it’s not foreign enough” while the US and Eqypt are gaining in popularity, according to online travel agent Sunshine.co.uk.

The agent says booking patterns and questions asked of users showed that alongside the US and Egypt, Turkey, Portugal and Greece were currently in favour.

The agent said customer comment about Spain was that there were too many English people and English bars there. US bookings have doubled in recent months, however.

That said, one wonders about the intelligence of some of the survey’s participants. Two people told Sunshine they would avoid Tunisia because they were scared of camels while another would give the Canaries a wide berth because they were “afraid of birds”.

Co-founder of sunshine.co.uk said Chris Brown said: “After looking at the popularity of certain destinations based on percentage share of bookings on our site from a trade point of view, we then wanted to hear why consumers like or dislike certain locations. Some
of the reasons people gave for not wanting to holiday in certain places
were very amusing.

“The fact that a select few would visit Turkey for a traditional kebab is rather funny, but some of the reasons, such as Spain not being so popular for being “too English” were more common.”
