Spanish restaurant voted best in the world
Spain’s El Celler de Can Roca in Girona – headed by brothers Joan, Jordi and Josep Roca – has taken the title of the world’s best restaurant from Denmark’s Noma.
Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy, jumped two spots to the number three position, nudging out Spain’s Mugaritz which fell one spot to number 4, and Alex Atala’s D.O.M. in Sao Paulo, Brazil, which fell two spots to 6th position.
New York city’s Eleven Madison Park climbed to number 5.
British celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal’s London concept diner Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, the highest new-entry restaurant into the top 50 list last year, moved up two spots to 7th this year, but his more established Fat Duck restaurant in Bray slipped 20 spots to take position number 33.
The US and France tied as most successful countries in the awards, sponsored by S. Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, each with six restaurants making it into the top 50 list this year.
Europe remains the continent with the most number of highly regarded restaurants with 29 in the top 50 (Asia 7, USA 6, South America 6 and Australia 2).
