Spear Travels set for further expansion
Spear Travels has completed the purchase of West Midlands-based independent Broads Travel Group and is already in talks over other potential acquisitions.
The company, which now has 13 retail branches, 16 home-based associates and a business travel division, said it receives weekly enquiries from travel businesses looking to sell.
MD Peter Cookson said the group was looking to open branches in affluent market towns across the UK, preferably where only one shop is currently operating.
Spear Travels has shops in North Yorkshire, the West Midlands and Staffordshire, Essex, Oxford and Dorset and is looking to fill the gaps.
"We are focused on growing both our retail network and our Home Based Associates division and we are delighted to welcome the team at The Broads Travel Group Travel and its customers on board," he added.
Broads Travel, which has shops in Lichfield and Sutton Coldfield, will continue to operate under the Broads brand and all staff have been retained.
"I recognise the strength of the brand in the local area and see no reason to change it," said Cookson.
In addition, Broads Business Travel and its cruise division will continue with plans for future growth in their local catchment areas. The purchase sees Spear Travels corporate travel business more than double.
Cookson said Spear Travels was ‘fiercely independent’ and offered a wider range of holidays than its competitors.
