Specialist hits out at ‘big four’

Specialist operator Cottages to Castles has taken a swipe at its major competitors after becoming an approved supplier of Triton Travel Group.

The Italy and Croatia villa specialist said larger companies work against agents through direct sell and online campaigns, something it vowed not to do.

He said it was important to fight back against the growth of the Web.

Sales manager Gerry Smith said: “In our view, these [independent travel agents] are the best equipped to combat the march of the Internet and the direct sales tactics of the big four.

“With Thomson Villas, Citalia, Magic of Italy and Simply Travel increasingly being de-racked, or switch-sold, we hope to convince more agents of how beneficial it can be to work with a true specialist that works with them, not against them.”

He claimed its retail sales have increased 50% this year.
