Spending lots less on business travel
Business travelers have decreased their spending by nearly 30% since 2004, says a new study.
“Business travelers are taking to the roadways, railways and skyways as often as in previous years, but they are spending less per trip due to savvy shopping, sticky corporate rules or both,” said TNS Travel & Transport, part of TNS.
Business travelers who spent an average of $995 per trip last year now spend only $725.
Partly by taking advantage of discount airline fares, business travelers have reduced their overall spending.
The Web also is increasingly a substitute for a trip.
The study also showed that business travelers continue to use corporate travel departments.
“It’s not that business travelers are dissatisfied with their corporate travel departments. Many say they use them to help with more complex or expensive trips,” said Ruth Sharp, vice president of TNS Travel & Transport Group.
