SpiceJet ordered to slash half of all flights over safety concerns
Indian budget carrier SpiceJet has been ordered to cut half of its scheduled flights for the next two months.
Regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation has put the airline under ‘enhanced surveillance’ following a spate of flight safety issues.
“In view of findings of various spot checks, the number of departures of SpiceJet are hereby restricted to 50%,”the DGCA said.
SpiceJet claims its operations won’t be impacted.
“We want to reassure our passengers and travel partners that our flights will operate as per schedule in the coming days and weeks,” it said.
SpiceJet is taking measures for arresting the trend of incidents and we will continue to work under the close guidance of the regulator.”
In just a few weeks the airline had several mid-air malfunctions causing diversions.
