Spirit Airlines installing Wi-Fi across entire fleet
Spirit Airlines says it will bring in-flight Wi-Fi to its entire fleet of planes by summer 2019.
In doing so it will be the first ultra-low cost carrier to install internet access.
Spirit is collaborating with service provider Thales Group to install the satellite based system onboard.
In keeping with its fee happy business model, the ‘bare fare’ airline will charge for the privilege of surfing the web during a flight.
Yet even this will be subject to demand pricing.
Spirit said the cost of Wi-Fi access will be around $6.50 per passenger with the exact price rising or falling depending on the popularity of the route.
It will become the first US airline to do this.
"We are testing this out. We want to see what people want," said airline spokesman Stephen Schuler.
