Springfield IL celebrates 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address
It’s the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address, and Springfield, IL, is getting ready to celebrate.
Next week, the Old State Capitol State Historic Site will display more than 3,512 flags as a memorial to all soldiers, past and present.
The flags represent the marked graves at the Soldier’s National Cemetery in Gettysburg, PA.
Visitors will be allowed to tie ribbons to the flags to honor those who have served in the military.
The "Hallowed Ground" display and got its name from the words of Pres. Abraham Lincoln’s famous address at Gettysburg cemetery in November 1863.
