St. Pete resort wins Green Award
The TradeWinds Island Grand was awarded the Green Lodging Certification from the Department of Environmental Protection for their efforts in conserving natural resources.
Trade Winds green initiatives included an extensive paper, cardboard and aluminum recycling program. The resort uses energy-efficient appliances that are Energy Star-rated. A towel and linen reuse program is also done through housekeeping.
Both Trade Winds Resorts — the 585-room Island Grand and the 159-room Sandpiper recently went completely non-smoking. The facilities are alongside the Gulf of Mexico at St. Pete Beach in Florida.
The voluntary, non-regulatory Florida Green Lodging Program works with the hospitality industry to reduce waste and minimize pollution.
