Starting salaries up year on year

Thursday, 20 Aug, 2015 0

Average travel salaries fell 2.7% last month but those taking a new job in the industry can still expect to start on a significantly higher salary than they would have got this time last year.

Latest figures from C&M Recruitment show the typical salary is now £25,175, a rise of £540, following increases in 10 of the last 11 months.

However, salaries for executive roles paying over £40,000 fell at their fastest rate since January.

C&M director Barbara Kolosinska said: "July was a quieter month than June, but salaries are still rising year-on-year for the typical travel candidate.

"Although we’re not seeing huge annual increases, the fact that the average new travel job is paying £540 more now than a year ago indicates that things are healthy in the travel industry."

The number of new job seekers has fallen year on year for the past four months and it looks unlikely to rise in August, which is typically a quiet month.

"Both the number of new travel jobs and candidates fell last month, which is disappointing but not entirely surprising," said Kolosinska.

"The mid to late summer period is always one of the slowest for travel recruitment due to many candidates and clients choosing instead to fly away on their holidays. Of course, this lack of competition also creates opportunities that canny job seekers can take advantage of."
