Starwood to Open Nearly 5000 Rooms in Macao

Monday, 31 Mar, 2008 0

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide reached an agreement with the Las Vegas Sands Corporation earlier this month to develop two hotels on the COTAI Strip in Macao, an area of reclaimed land between the islands of Coloane and Taipa.

The 4000 room Sheraton Macao Hotel is expected to open in 2009 while the 460 room St Regis Hotel and 400 room St Residences is also set to open next year.

The Sheraton property – the largest hotel on the Strip as well as Starwood’s largest hotel globally – will be located in two towers.

In addition to approximately 4000 rooms, the massive project will feature five restaurants, more than 117,000 sq. m of meeting space, a health club in each tower, a spa and two outdoor swimming pools.

The St Regis Hotel will include approximately 460 rooms (119 suites), four restaurants, meeting facilities, a health club, a Reméde Spa and a swimming pool.

The adjacent St Regis Residences will feature over 400 residential units ranging from one bedroom to four bedroom units and an exclusive-to-residents swimming pool and health club.  Butler service will be available to all guests and residence owners.

In the region, the Las Vegas-based company owns and operates the Sands Macao with The Venetian Macao Resort-Hotel under construction.
