Stelios launches no frills hotel
EasyJet founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou has launched his latest venture with the opening of a 34-room budget hotel in London.
With prices starting from £20 per double room, the easyHotel at Lexham Gardens near Earls Court aims to fill the gap between traditional branded hotels and bed and breakfast accommodation.
There are no services and facilities apart from the en-suite rooms and no common area other than a reception desk. TVs can be rented at £5 per 24 hours while rooms, only three of which have windows, come in three sizes – small, very small and tiny.
“Branded chains start at a much higher price and bed and breakfast accommodation is an un-branded one-off service where quality and value are variable,” a spokesman said. “The aim of easyHotel is to provide a safe, clean room for the night.”
It said sales are “encouraging” despite no advertising.
While easyHotel is owned and operated by the easyGroup, expansion of the concept will come through franchising. More hotels are expected to open in London, other major UK cities and even overseas. The first franchised easyHotel will open in September in Basel, Switzerland.
