Storms lead to ferry cancellations
Brittany ferries has cancelled a number of services after strong winds and heavy rain hit the UK.
The Met Office issued yellow "be aware" warnings for wind and rain for nearly all UK regions, saying this week would mark one of the stormiest periods for several years.
Brittany Ferries has cancelled the service between Bilbao and Portsmouth today and tomorrow as well as the service from Portsmouth to Santander tomorrow.
Plymouth to Roscoff was also cancelled yesterday as high winds meant the port at Portsmouth was in danger of closing.
Ferries from Portsmouth to Caen and St Malo are still operating as usual.
A spokesman for Brittany Ferries said: “We are not anticipating any further cancellations and the service should be back to normal.
“It’s the strength of the wind that can lead to some of the ports being in danger of closing.
“The cancellation of services going down to Spain was more to do with the comfort of passengers because it would have been quite rough.”
Ferry customers were advised to check the website for updated sailing information.
UK airports seemed unaffected by the adverse weather.
