Strike grounds flights to Greece
British Airways has promised to operate larger aircraft on some flights to Greece tomorrow to re-accommodate passengers whose flights have been cancelled due to a strike by Greek air traffic controllers.
BA said it has re-timed some services to avoid the strike period yesterday and today, but it said that it had still been forced to cancel some flights.
EasyJet has cancelled six flights and delayed the departures of a further six until tomorrow. The airline said it had pre-booked hotel accommodation for all affected passengers, who will be informed by SMS and email.
It said all passengers due to fly to or from Greece today should check the status of their flight on its website before going to the airport.
Ryanair has cancelled flights to and from Stansted to Athens, Crete and Thessaloniki today and rescheduled a further 18 flights to operate tomorrow. Passengers can transfer a cancelled or rescheduled flight to an alternative date free of charge on its website, but those with bookings that include flights that have not been cancelled will have to contact its call centre to make free transfers.
