Study: Carnival UK to generate £2.5 billion to UK economy
Carnival UK is touting its business as a £2.5 billion economic engine to the UK economy.
In its first economic impact report, the company forecasts a £2.5 billion boon to the economy over the next five years.
The study highlights a turnaround of a Carnival ship in Southampton generates from £1.9million to £2.5million in economic impact.
Total turnarounds in Southampton contribute about £505million annually, the report says.
CUK handles eight brands in the UK.
The study also calculated the impact of 1,650 full time employees in the Southampton headquarters adding a contribution of £351million to the local economy.
CUK is the largest private-sector employer in Southampton.
“Southampton has grown with us over the years. As this industry has grown larger and larger, so has the infrastructure of Southampton,” said Paul Ludlow, president of CUK and P&O Cruises.
“We’ve seen transport systems and suppliers in the region grow as we’ve grown, and I think we have this relationship in the city where we understand one another.”
