Summer strike threat at Aberdeen Airport
Ground staff at Aberdeen airport are threatening to stage three 24-hour strikes during the peak summer travel period.
The first walk-out is scheduled for July 20 followed by strikes on August 2 and August 16.
Unite the union said about 170 workers would be involved in the action, including those working in security and airfield operations, airside services, firefighters, operations officer and passenger service agents.
It said 88% of workers had voted to reject the airport’s latest pay offer, which it said was below inflation. The union is claiming that staff have received below inflation increases for the past two years.
Unite regional officer Wullie Wallace said: "Aberdeen International Airport’s latest derisory pay offer has been emphatically rejected by Unite members.
"The workforce for several years now has received below inflation increases and the company’s idea of rewarding their hard working employees is by offering more real terms pay cuts.
"Aberdeen Airport has been investing heavily into improving the airport facilities and amenities. It’s high time for the company to invest in their employees. Unite remain open to further discussions with a view to resolving the dispute."
