Low cost carrier Sun Country is adding a new country to its flight network – Canada.

The airline will launch its first flights north of the border from its main Minneapolis-St. Paul hub to Vancouver.

The seasonal route will start on May 20 initially with two flights a week from MSP on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

"We are thrilled to be adding Vancouver to our ever-evolving list of routes and believe there is significant demand for low-cost service to this great destination," said chief revenue officer Grant Whitney.

Fares for the route start at $99 one-way.

It faces competition from Westjet on the route which is also marketed through partner Delta Air Lines.

Sun Country also flies internationally to Mexico and several Caribbean destinations.
