Suspect arrested over passenger death on Alaska cruise ship
The FBI is investigating a ‘suspicious death’ aboard a cruise liner in Alaska and has a suspect in custody.
FBI spokeswoman Staci Feger-Pellessier said the death occurred aboard a Princess Cruises shipe which was then diverted to Juneau early Wednesday.
The cruise line confirmed an incident on the Emerald Princess during a ‘domestic dispute resulting in the death of a 39-year-old female guest from Utah.’
"Since the incident, our fleet security team has been coordinating with the FBI and other local authorities," the line said in a statement.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and all those impacted by this tragic event."
A suspect has been taken into custody and the U.S. attorney’s office will announce charges at a press conference later today.
The ship’s passengers were forced to stay on board the ship for several hours while investigations continued but were eventually allowed ashore in the late afternoon on Wednesday.
The Emerald Princess, carrying 3,400 passengers and 1,100 crew members, is on a seven-day round-trip cruise to Alaska from Seattle.
