‘Suspect device’ forces BA flight to make emergency landing
A British Airways plane to Heathrow was diverted yesterday as a precaution following fears a ‘suspect device’ was on board.
The Boeing 747, travelling from Las Vegas-London, touched down safely at Montreal where its 312 passengers and 17 crew will stay overnight before resuming their journey today (Thursday).
Flight BA274 was due to arrive at Heathrow at 3.25pm on Wednesday, but touched down instead at Trudeau Airport in Dorval at 5.47am local time (10.47am GMT).
All passengers were searched as they disembarked and the aircraft was searched by police using sniffer dogs.
BA said the diversion was a ‘precaution’ and it would provide hotel rooms for passengers and rebook them on to later flights as soon as possible.
It added: "The safety and security of our customers, crew and aircraft are our highest priorities at all times."
