Tenby as it was – where it all started

European walled towns head to Malta to talk sustainable tourism development

Participants hailing from walled towns in Europe are in Malta to participate in the Executive Meeting of the European Walled Towns (EWT), an international association for sustainable development of walled towns and cities and fortified historic towns.

The meeting in Malta will largely focus on areas of common interest and objectives of key importance for Walled Towns in Europe such as educational exchanges, cooperation and sustainable tourism.

Discussions include the possible creation of a cooperation network between schools and adult learning institutions within the towns in the EWT and being more active in various EU-funded programmes and projects that cater to all sectors of the civil society living in European walled towns.

The EWT was founded in Tenby (South Wales) in 1989 (back then called The Walled Towns Friendship Circle, WTFC). It is an international forum to promote the many mutual interests shared by walled towns. European Walled Towns is the international association for sustainable development of walled towns, walled cities and fortified historic towns in Europe.

The EWT aims to promote the many mutual interests shared by walled towns; EWT wishes to maintain and strengthen historic walled towns for future generations by applying for European funding and participating in European projects.
