Sustainability of Mountain Biking

Friday, 20 Mar, 2009 0

Here in Scotland, we’ve been listed as one of the ‘hottest places in the world to ride’ on a mountain bike. It’s an activity which our country seems ideal for, an opportunity we’ve taken hold of and are determined to make the most of (and the national forest estate, managed by Forestry Commission Scotland is the key provider of purposebuilt trails). But, it’s a challenge to balance the 3 pillars of sustainability – environmental, economic and social, along with the demands of a changing market. We’re hosting the World Mountain Bike Conference on Sustainability in Dumfries in May this year, the first time it’ll be held outside North America, the chance to share our stories, learn from others’ experiences and, together, ensure that this exciting, healthy, social activity continues to benefit our own and other destinations worldwide well into the future.
