SWISS becomes latest Star Alliance partner
Swiss International Air Lines has joined the Star Alliance as its 17th member.
The addition of Zurich as an alliance hub, the global airline group can now offer flight connections through 11 European airports – Copenhagen, Frankfurt, London, Lisbon, Madrid, Manchester, Munich, Stockholm, Vienna, Warsaw and Zurich.
In addition to its European network, SWISS runs long-haul flights to destinations in North and South America, Africa and Asia, complementing the existing alliance network, and adding new destinations like Benghazi (Libya), Dar-es-Salaam (Tanzania), Douala and Yaounde (Cameroon) and Nairobi (Kenya).
Star Alliance CEO Jaan Albrecht said: “With SWISS, our alliance has gained a high-quality airline with a strong brand. We now provide more choice to our customers, especially on key European and intercontinental business routes.
“Moreover, with Switzerland being the traditional base for many corporate clients, we look forward to offering our customer benefits to even more travellers than before.”
SWISS CEO Christoph Franz described the move as a major strategic milestone for the carrier.
“The co-branding of aircraft among Star Alliance members also helps to raise the awareness of the alliance and its benefits among our customers. And we are proud to carry the Star Alliance logo on our aircraft throughout our route network,” he said.
