Sydney’s Star City has a new Darling
Sydney’s Star City casino has revealed more details of a $860 million makeover of its hotel and entertainment facilities.
Casinos in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney are spending millions on upgrading facilities in order to meet the challenges posed by the new gaming hotspots of Singapore and Macau.
The Darling hotel at Star City, due to open mid-October, will have 171 rooms, 57 suites and four penthouses with their own gaming rooms. Penthouse suites will be charged nominally at $15,000 a night, although high rollers are likely to have this charge factored into their spend on the gaming tables.
Star City is also giving its retail offering a boost with high-end stores being given space in a luxury goods mall.
Victor Tiffany, head of hospitality for Echo Entertainment Group, said Star City was creating an entertainment precinct that included star chefs in great restaurants, spa facilities and an events centre that would attract the biggest names in entertainment.
“Everyone talks about Sydney’s beaches – and they are great – but more people come here to eat and shop than go to the beaches,†Tiffany said.
