Taiwan carrier adopting bitcoin payments
Taiwanese carrier Far Eastern Air Transport will embrace cryptocurrency as it looks to boost business.
It will become the first airline in Taiwan to adopt bitcoin payments and one of only a handful globally.
FAT Taiwan says it may adopt payments in other cryptocurrencies in the future.
To lure more flyers, the airline is offering discounted fares for bitcoin bookings.
The cryptocurrency can be used to pay for all fares and additional services offered by the airline.
"The widespread use of cryptocurrency in various scenarios will usher in a new future for the airline business, lodging industry, OTA and the entire tourism sector. FAT is about to be the number one in the industry to embrace cryptocurrency and blockchain technology," said airline president Zhang Gangwei.
FAT Taiwan’s route network includes Taipei, Kaohsiung, Taichung and Penghu.
It also serves China, Japan, South Korea’s Jeju Island, Cambodia and the Philippines.
