TAT: Security Act in Phuket will not impact on tourists
PHUKET – Thailand has confirmed that its Internal Security Act will be invoked during the ASEAN Ministers Meeting, due to get under way this weekend at the Laguna resort.
High security will surround the resort. Roads used by the ministers will be closed and all demonstrations will be banned.
In April, the ASEAN Summit and related meetings in Pattaya were cancelled after the anti-government red shirts stormed the meeting venue.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand said that the security regulations do not imply “an emergency situationâ€.
“Rather, they are precautionary measures to prevent disruption of the meetings, drawing on the lessons of Pattaya in April.
“The security measures will be used only as necessary, in order to cause the least inconvenience to local people and foreign tourists,†TAT explained.
