Taxi operator G7 adopts JCB card payments
Major European taxi operator G7 is expanding international payment options with an eye on the Asia market.
JCB cards are now accepted across its entire fleet of taxis.
The JCB card is a major card scheme with 175 million cardmembers, mainly from Asia.
This move hopes to attract a more diverse international clientele with inbound Asia travellers a major focus.
JCB cardmembers can now pay for their rides directly via G7 taxis’ payment terminals.
The move comes amid a strong recovery in Asian tourism in Paris.
During summer 2025, Chinese, Japanese, and Indian visitors increased significantly compared to summer 2023, up by more than 40%, 34% and 14% respectively, according to the Paris Tourist Office.
The partnership also marks a key step in JCB’s strategy to expand card acceptance across Europe, particularly in the tourism and mobility sectors.
Beyond payment, G7 taxis are authorised to operate in restricted‑traffic areas such as Rue de Rivoli and around the Louvre Museum and can also use lanes reserved for taxis and buses.
Yann Ricordel, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of G7, said: “The integration of JCB Card payments in G7 taxis is fully aligned with our commitment to making the customer experience increasingly accessible for an ever more diverse international clientele.”
JCB is a leading credit card issuer and acquirer in Japan, launching its card business in Japan in 1961.
The acceptance network includes about 71 million merchants around the world.
G7 operates in more than 260 cities in France with 10,000 independent drivers in Paris and more than 5,000 partner taxi drivers nationwide.
It carries around 32 million passengers each year.
