For the second year World Travel Market is hosting the Travel Technology Awards with TravelMole, which honour IT suppliers and products that have created the most impact in the industry over the past year. The awards, provide an opportunity for exhibitors in WTM’s sold out Technology and Online Travel sector to be recognized as outstanding in their field.

23% larger than last year and over 50% bigger than the year before, the technology sector with 18 new exhibitors this year, has exceeded all expectations and confirmed industry predictions of explosive growth this year. Exhibitors are already rebooking their stands, with many wanting to increase the size of their stands and technology seminars have been packed to capacity underlining the immense interest in this area.

Fiona Jeffery, Managing Director of WTM, said:” World Travel Market has established a really thriving Technology and Online Travel sector. The new awards we have added this year show how technology continues to grow at a rapid pace and the important role we can play in promoting it.”

The 2006 Travel Technology Awards were inaugurated last year to recognise excellence in innovation, service and performance across the many sectors of the travel and tourism industry which are dependent upon technology companies

Graham McKenzie, chief executive of TravelMole, commented: “We are delighted to be involved with the Travel Technology Awards for a second year at WTM. This year the awards reflect the huge explosion in online and mobile services and will heighten awareness of the benefits they can bring to the travel industry”

World Travel Market’s prestigious opening ceremony, attended by more than 100 Tourism Ministers, Ambassadors and High Commissioners, as well as industry leaders, exhibitors, visitors and media took place on November 6 at the World Stage, ExCeL London. A new global responsible tourism initiative for 2007 was the international theme at the opening ceremony.

The international singer from Wales, who signed the biggest deal in UK classical recording history and has twice won the Best Album of the Year at the Classical Brits, sang and formally opened World Travel Market. Additionally, she also spoke about the new initiative.
