Teletext gears up for switch to digital

Teletext Holidays is stepping up its communications to customers as it gears up to become a digital-only business from January 1.

The company is promoting its Freeview 101 television channel and website to make sure its customers know the analogue service is switching off at the end of the year.

It has launched a Freeview box giveaway with more than 500 Freeview boxes up for grabs between now and the analogue switch off date of 31 December.

Promoted on the existing analogue pages, customers need to send an email with their details and booking reference and the name of the company they have booked with to claim their Freeview box.

“We’ve done a big piece of research to understand more about our analogue users. A large chunk still don’t know the service is switching off at the end of the year so we need to get the message out about our other services,” said Mark Bloxham, marketing director, Teletext Holidays.

“We want customers to stay with us as we move to being a digital-only business from 1 January. It’s vital for us to understand what they know about our other services so we know where to direct them.

“We’ll be steering people to find us on Freeview 101 and online with messages on all our online and offline marketing activity.|

Research found that 80 per cent of current analogue uses will either move to the freeview service or the website to find deals.

Teletext Holidays is a completely relaunching its brand early in the new year.

Meanwhile, the company has appointed Kay Bustin as head of online product.

She joins from Cara Hotel Marketing where she looked after the sales and marketing strategies for hotel clients in the Far East and Caribbean.

Before that she spent four and a half years at Lastminute.com in various roles including worldwide product manager.

In her new position, Kay will play a key part in remodelling the business as it gears up to be a digital only business from 1 January 2011.

“She’ll be adding more long-haul travel including adventure trips to New Zealand, beach retreats in Thailand, spa breaks in the Caribbean and self-drive tours in the USA,” said a spokesman.
