Tempo has the taste for Muscat and Oman
With a new focus on the Middle East generated by carriers Etihad and Qatar, Tempo Holidays is highlighting its long-standing expertise in the region with a promotion of Oman, a detour from the region’s gateway ports.
General Manager Sales and Marketing, Mark Johnson said Tempo Holidays’ launch product 17 years ago was in the core Middle East. In recent years further East, Tempo had added the likes of UEA, Oman, Bahrain and Qatar to cater for Europe travel stopovers, adding, “Travellers now want to explore that region’s culture and history”.
“Oman has lived in recent years in the shadow of Dubai’s massive development, but it offers discerning travellers an authentic experience of the Middle East,” he said, adding, “It is described as one of the most traditional countries in the gulf.”
Tempo Holidays is the only key wholesaler with packages such as the 4 days Taste of Muscat package (from $695 pp twin) or the 7 days Cultural Oman private car tour (from $1,085).
Tourism is still a new concept for the Omanis, said Mr Johnson, therefore the country has taken a very cautious stance towards development and so provides travellers with a real sense of the traditions of the Middle East.
Oman’s government is preserving the country’s culture, investing heavily in horticultural activities which has contributed to creating stunning scenery, along with strict protection of a number of nature preserves and coastal areas.
Oman is home to many ancient forts built in the 17th and 18th centuries to protect the country from invasions, as it is to unique wildlife including the Arabian Oryx, Arabian Tahr, Sooty Falcon and giant sea turtles which live in the Indian Ocean and come ashore in Oman each year to lay their eggs.
The Taste of Muscat explores Muscat’s markets, mosques and palaces and the regions with a private car day tour with English-speaking guide to Nizwa Fort, Souk and Jabrin Castle. The Cultural Oman package has four nights in Muscat and two in Nizwa and also visits the village of Birkat Al Mauz and the dunes of Wahiba Sands, travelling in a private car with guide-escort.
