Tempo Holidays Egypt & Dubai product; still a family passion

Tempo Holidays’ foundation brochure, Egypt & Dubai, is once more being written by a member of the Hearst family.

Owners Gary and Susan Heart started off with this brochure when they established the company 17 years ago, so this brochure has great sentimental attachment for the Hearst family.

As Product Manager, son Jeremy has just signed off proofs for printing the company’s 2008 Egypt Dubai & Oman brochure which is due to hit agent racks early September.

“When I joined the business 12 months ago I administered the 2007 program which was already in place,” said Jeremy. “Then I progressed into creating the program for 2008.”

“Mum and Dad were the product managers for this brochure for 10 years, handing over that role in 2000, so there is a sense of family occasion about the 2008 brochure,” he said.

Gary and Susan agreed that Jeremy had completed a seamless entry to the business.

In the process of creating the 2008 program, Jeremy spent six weeks in the region, inspecting more than 100 hotels and checking tour operators best suited for the Tempo customer profile.

“I had been to the region three times before in a private capacity, so I already had knowledge and appreciation of what it offers,” he said.

“What overwhelms me still is the scale of Egypt, its monuments, history and lively cities, while ancient Luxor is my favourite city for sightseeing,” he said.

One of the most significant changes Jeremy has made to the brochure is to include Rosetta to its Taste of Alexandria package. This is where the Rosetta Stone was discovered, a tablet which unlocked the language of the Pharaohs.

“If travellers can start their trip there and learn about the stone, the significance of all the monuments and temples they see in following days falls into place.”

He also rates highly his addition of an eight-day Cairo, Luxor and Aswan private vehicle tour which visits all the important sites along the Nile, without cruising.

“This means travellers can stay overnight in the very interesting cities of Luxor and Aswan instead of returning to their cruise ships,” he said.

In November last year, Tempo Holidays announced that Gary and Susan Hearst were reducing their day-to-day management roles within the business in a management structure which saw Steve Reynolds appointed to the newly created position of Chief Executive Officer, the appointment of Jeremy as Product Manager and the elevation of Antony Hearst in the finance department.
