Texas appetite for conventions
The Irving, Texas area is promoting its convention business by marketing its location: a three-hour flight from every major US city.
More than 10,000 meetings and conventions are held here each year, according to the Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The city has a dozen full-service hotels with more than 200,000 square feet of combined meeting space.
The largest meeting hotels include the Westin Dallas Fort Worth Airport, which has 38,000 square feet of space. Room inventory tops 11,000, spread through 75 hotels.
The local sports scene includes the Dallas Cowboys and the PGA Tour’s Byron Nelson Championship.
Unique venues for conventions include the National Scouting Museum, the official home of the Boy Scouts of America.
