Texas tourism industry gears up for Virgin Atlantic’s new Austin route
Visit Austin and Visit Fredericksburg have joined together to welcome Virgin Atlantic’s new upcoming nonstop flight, which launches on May 25, 2022.
The Virgin Atlantic service will fly between Austin, Live Music Capital of the World and London Heathrow and marks the airline’s first new route to the U.S. since 2015.
Austin is the gateway to Texas Hill Country and just an hour’s drive from the historic town of Fredericksburg and its 55 wineries.
Customers arriving into Austin will now be able to connect, via the Delta Air Lines partnership, onto 10 US cities: Seattle, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Detroit, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Raleigh Durham and New York JFK.
Julie Chase, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Visit Austin said: “We are really excited about the new route and feel it marks a step in the right direction towards the recovery of international travel. The UK has always been a hugely important market for us”.
Karyn Mayo, Director of Tourism & Strategic Alliances at Fredericksburg Convention & Visitor Bureau, added: “We can’t wait to extend some of our famous Hill Country hospitality to Virgin customers. We’ve missed our UK and European travellers and are so pleased there are new routes coming online for them to reconnect with us.”
KLM will also be launching a three times weekly service between Amsterdam and Austin on March 28, 2022.
With the Lufthansa flight coming out of Frankfurt and British Airways’ Heathrow/Austin non-stop service, airlift is ramping up.
Virgin’s 787-9 aircraft will fly four times a week with 31 seats in Upper Class, 35 Premium and 192 Economy Delight, Classic and Light seats.
