Thai backpacker trial adjourned
The trial of two Burmese migrant workers accused of the murder of British backpackers David Miller and Hannah Witheridge has been adjourned for the re-testing of forensic evidence collected at the murder scene.
The Samui Provincial Court ordered the public prosecutors to work with investigators to send all remaining forensic evidence, including a shovel, to the Justice Ministry’s Central Institute of Forensic Science for re-testing.
Zaw Lin, 22 and Wai Phyo, 21, have pleaded not guilty to the murders, rape and robbery of the tourists on the island of Koh Tao in September 2014.
The legal team representing the men, who claim they were forced to confess to the murders and have since withdrawn their confessions, claim the trial is close to collapse.
Hannah and David’s families had travelled to Thailand for the trial, which is being held on the island of Koh Samui.
The trial has been adjourned to July 22.
