Apinan Sumanaseni, President of Thai Airways said “As the national carrier of Thailand, those of us at Thai are rather nostalgic of Don Muang’s Bangkok International Airport after having operated there for the past 46 years”.

“In addition, we are excited about our move to Suvarnabhumi Airport, which offers a whole new range of travel experiences, utilizing modern state-of-the-art facilities tailored to the changing needs of today’s global traveller and it is with pleasure and great anticipation that Thai announces the beginning of a new era, with flights to and from our new operational base at Suvarnabhumi Airport.”

Thai organized a farewell event at the former Bangkok International Airport to celebrate the last flight departure for Shanghai and part of the farewell event included an exhibition farewelling Don Muang, including photographs marking the history of the airport that has served the world travelling to and from Bangkok and in addition Thais was able to obtain rare and inspiring photos of historical flights through Don Muang, one of the oldest airports in Southeast Asia.

22 Thai aircraft were also flown as ferry flights without passengers from Don Muang’s Bangkok International Airport to Suvarnabhumi Airport, to enable to be fully prepared for the transfer to the new airport operational base, so that Thai was ready to operate yesterday from Suvarnabhumi Airport.
